A Confidex Smart Label including EM Microelectronic’s new EPC/NFC dual-frequency IC, was presented at RFID Journal LIVE! 2015, in San Diego, CA. The new EM4423 IC allows new tagging solutions e.g. for logistics and retail, as the data stored on the IC can be read not only by the EPC UHF RFID readers but also by NFC-enabled smartphones and tablets. While the EPC functionality provides fast data collection and long read ranges needed for automatized logistics, the NFC access can be used for adding further services to the solution, like marketing and advertising, providing access to product information on a manufacturer’s website and ensuring product authenticity.
