Lay Grand International Co., Ltd., a Taiwan-based export company, is utilizing UPM Raflatac RFID tags and a complete solution from Tranz Technologies to streamline its supply chain operations.

The company has branches in Hong Kong and mainland China as well as a factory in mainland China, and supplies an extensive range of decorative products. Retailers in North America constitute Lay Grand International’s primary customers. The company also deals with the RFID mandate of retail giant Sam’s Club, which entails infrequent but large shipments that make accuracy and efficiency throughout the supply chain critical.

Lay Grand previously handled business operations such as order processing, inventory and inspection manually, causing high labour costs and other inefficiencies. The company sought to intensify its supply chain operations with RFID, using UPM Raflatac ShortDipole UHF tags and a complete solution called E2 from Tranz Technologies.

The E2, coupled with UPM Raflatac’s RFID tags, allows Lay Grand to capture and manage product events throughout the process flow at its Shenzhen distribution center. It also helps staff members verify whether tagged products and cartons match the packing list before shipping.

The many benefits achieved with Lay Grand’s RFID implementation include improved shipping and receiving efficiency and increased inventory accuracy. Satisfied with the outcome, Lay Grand plans to expand the implementation to other factories and logistic centres.

The E2 comprises a product information service and an RFID equipment leasing program, allowing end-users such as Lay Grand to focus on their core business by eliminating the need to acquire the expertise necessary to purchase equipment such as RFID readers and software.UPM Raflatac’s ShortDipole tags were chosen due to their high read/write sensitivity, excellent anti-interference capability and high-speed, high-volume encoding possibility.

“The solution, together with high-performance UPM Raflatac RFID tags, provides an ideal combination for small and medium-sized enterprises with limited resources seeking to streamline their operations,” says Edward Lu, sales and marketing director, Asia, RFID, UPM Raflatac.
