Franz Vollmann will take over the position as managing director of Q-Cells Malaysia effective April 1, 2011. He succeeds Bernhard Rack, who has successfully established and managed Q-Cells Malaysia since June 2008.

In his new role, Vollmann will secure a continuously high-quality operation of the production plant and build on its existing strengths to ensure future sustainability and growth. Vollmann is an expert in the field of manufacturing, especially in the electronics industry.

The master of business administration has broad industry experience gained from assignments in different top management positions in various countries. His positions prior to joining Q-Cells include being the COO at SMARTRAC Technology Ltd in Thailand, and vice president and managing director at Molex Hong Kong Ltd. in Dongguan, China.

As one of the pioneers of the Malaysian manufacturing facility, Rack has effectively established, managed and led Q-Cells Malaysia to its present strong and successful position. What was merely empty land 2.5 years ago in an untouched industrial park in the State of Selangor, Malaysia, is today a fully operational plant covering a total area of more than 30,000 square meter with a production capacity of currently more than 600 Megawatt peak and over 500 employees.

“We warmly thank Bernhard Rack for the great work he and his team have achieved for Q-Cells not only in Malaysia,” said Nedim Cen, CEO of Q-Cells SE. “The output of the Malaysian solar cell production has outgrown the capacity of headquarters in Thalheim in 2010, thus positively contributing to Q-Cells’ competitive position on the world PV market. It will now be the task of Franz Vollmann, to continue and broaden this success. He will find an excellent support in the existing team.”
