Zebra Technologies Corporation announced the introduction of its new ultra-high frequency (UHF) Gen 2 RFID card with Impinj Monza 4 silicon at RFID Journal LIVE! The new UHF card extends Zebra’s high performance card product line with a new model that offers exceptional performance in access control, personnel tracking, long-range ID applications, and social media and hospitality check-ins.

The new UHF Gen 2 RFID card is based on Zebra’s patent-pending antenna design, specifically optimized for UHF card applications giving it far greater read range, added memory and more reliability. The cards contains Impinj’s state-of-the-art Monza 4 chip, which provides advanced sensitivity, giving the card enhanced read rates and an unprecedented read range of more than 50 feet even while worn in a lanyard.

The new UHF card, combined with Zebra’s UHF card printer/encoder line, address the current read limitations of other cards on the market while opening new applications such as reading through handbags, pockets and backpacks, and delivering increased access control and efficiency. Additional benefits of the UHF Gen 2 RFID card include:
• New data structure that offers optional memory configuration to protect privacy and hide sensitive information, while maintaining a high level of readability
• Optional read range reduction feature, protecting users from unauthorized tracking by temporarily reducing the read range of the card to less than one foot
• 48-bit Unique ID feature that protects against card cloning and provides a card authentication method to uniquely identify every card.

“Advancing the power and range of people identification and management applications is essential for businesses looking to maximize safety, security and convenience for employees, guests and customers,” said Michael Fein, technical product manager, Zebra Technologies. “With Zebra’s new UHF Gen 2 RFID card, organizations now have the ability to track people with greater range and increased reliability, while offering sophisticated security features.”
