Plastic Logic announced the appointment of Indro Mukerjee as CEO. Mukerjee brings extensive executive experience from leading global multinational, new venture and investment-backed fast moving technology and industrial companies. He will succeed Richard Archuleta, who is stepping down after leading the company for the past four years.

Most recently, Mukerjee served as chairman and CEO of C-MAC MicroTechnology, leading the business transformation of the international high-reliability electronics manufacturing firm since 2006. He was previously with Philips Semiconductors BV, where he served in a number of executive leadership positions, including executive vice president responsible for global commercial operations, chief marketing officer and CEO of the Automotive and RF-ID businesses.

Mukerjee’s earlier career included being commercial director in the leadership team which took VideoLogic, an innovative PC-based multimedia/graphics venture, through a successful IPO and senior management positions within Hitachi’s European Semiconductor Division. He holds a degree in engineering science from Oxford University and is a graduate of the Advanced Management Program of the University of Pennsylvania Wharton School.

“Indro brings to Plastic Logic tremendous experience in leading global operations and manufacturing in the fast moving technology sector just as our company undertakes the global commercialization of our products. We were fortunate to find someone with his unique combination of talents to lead the company in its next phase,” said Tony Illsley, chairman of the Board of Directors of Plastic Logic.

“I’m very excited to join Plastic Logic and to create a global business which will inspire an industry revolution,” said Mukerjee. “I am very impressed with the company’s unique technology and engineering expertise, and look forward to leading it to the successful realization of its goals.”

Plastic Logic plans to begin its initial commercial product rollout later this year and is in the process of building its second manufacturing plant in Zelenograd, Russia. That facility, which is planned to be the world’s largest plastic electronics production facility, will open in 2013-2014. Groundbreaking for the Zelenograd factory is planned for later this year.

At the same time, Plastic Logic continues to invest in the expansion of its first high-volume, state-of-the-art manufacturing facility in Dresden, Germany, which opened in 2008, as well as its technology R&D center in Cambridge, England and its product development hub in Mountain View, CA.

Mukerjee takes over from Richard Archuleta, who has led the company through its transformation from an applied research organization to a product company.

“The board would like to thank Rich Archuleta for his enormous contribution to the development of Plastic Logic, which include the opening of our first factory in Dresden, continuing advancements of our core technology, developing our product pipeline, and enabling commercial production. We wish him every success in his next venture,” said Illsley.
