At a celebratory prize ceremony yesterday, Bundesdruckerei and its partners Ageto and procilon IT-Solutions honored the three best ideas from a total of 123 applications submitted to the eIDEE Contest for the Digital Handshake.

This contest, which was initiated by Bundesdruckerei and its partners, searches for innovative ideas that incorporate the use of the online ID function of the new German ID card. The event was hosted by Corinna Lampadius, and the keynote speech was held by Dr. Frank Schirrmacher, editor of the newspaper Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung. First place went to the company Phone House for its solution for entering mobile phone contracts online using the new German ID card.

Second place went to embedded projects GmbH. The jury was impressed by the proposal to develop a reading device in conjunction with the AusweisApp software that would then serve as a mobile data and application safe. An idea by Peter Kühn to ensure greater security and trust for online car sharing agencies came third. In this case, the new German ID card could be used as reliable ID for both drivers and passengers alike.

“The contest showed the advantages for day-to-day life which the new German ID card has to offer – both for service providers and for users,” explained jury chairman Professor Dr. Dr. Thomas Schildhauer, director of the Institute of Electronic Business (IEB) at Universität der Künste. “The jury was impressed by the diversity and quality of the ideas submitted. We will continue to host the eIDEE Contest for the Digital Handshake next year too,” said Dr. Schildhauer.
