The Fraunhofer Institute for Solar Energy Systems ISE is playing a significant part in setting up and carrying out a new master degree course “Master Online Photovoltaics” at the University of Freiburg. The goal of this course program is the extra-occupational education and vocational training of specialists for the photovoltaic market. Online presentations combined with short periods of presence seminars in Freiburg optimally prepare the students for activities in R&D or marketing divisions of the photovoltaic sector. “Due to its technical training and its sponsors, the Master Online Photovoltaics is one of a kind,” emphasized Martin Kasemann, project coordinator at the Center for Renewable Energy (Zentrum für Erneuerbare Energien ZEE), University of Freiburg. “The course of studies covers the physics, technology, system technology and the business basics of photovoltaics by providing over 20 lectures, seminars and practical applications. Because of its strong orientation towards the practice, we assume that companies will also use our offer as an incentive or as an additional training program to reward excellent staff.” The master’s program is offered by the Center for Renewable Energy (ZEE) of the University of Freiburg in cooperation with the Faculty of Engineering at the university as well as Fraunhofer ISE. Upon the successful completion of the program, the students will be bestowed with a master of science from the University of Freiburg. “In order to emphasize the relevance to the practice and the industry in this technical and scientifically-oriented program of advanced vocational training, many lectures in the master’s program are held by staff scientists from Fraunhofer ISE who are renowned in the field of photovoltaics. Additionally much of the practical part of the program will take place in its laboratories in Freiburg,” stated professor Eicke Weber, director of Fraunhofer ISE. “We are convinced that the many years of research and teaching experience at the University of Freiburg, designated as an elite ‘University of Excellence,’ and the technical excellence of the Fraunhofer ISE are a guarantee for a master course that is relevant for the industry and research and has outstanding perspectives for the future,” added professor Leonhard Reindl, director of ZEE at the University of Freiburg.
