ALPLA Expands into Morocco Partnering with Diana Holding

International company ALPLA Group expands its presence in North Africa by entering the Moroccan market, setting a course for growth in the Maghreb. ALPLA Group has also acquired the majority stake in Atlantic Packaging and founded the joint venture ALPLA Morocco with previous owner Diana Holding. 
 
In acquiring majority stake in packaging company Atlantic Packaging and partnering with Diana Holding, ALPLA provides expertise and experience to the production on PET preforms for the reginal markets in Maghreb and Western Africa. 
 
“Together with our strategic partner with Diana Holding, we want to exploit the enormous potential of the reginal markets, open up new segments and contribute our expertise as a global system provider for preforms, bottles and closures,” said Christian Fessler, ALPLA managing director for Middle East and North Africa.

At the Tangier plant, packaging films are produced by extrusion, plastic pallets are produced by injection molding, and PET preforms are produced for the beverage industry. The Group plans to further local product to include bottle and closure production. 
 
The 12,000 square meter plant in Tangier has plans for expansion with more than 20,00 square meters of space available. ALPLA Morocco has tripled production capacity in the first stage and the company is investing in two new PET preform production lines. ALPLA also hopes to leverage capabilities and introduce new technologies in the future. 
 
“Through the location in Morocco, we can supply our global customers in northern Africa with the usual quality and flexibility, gain new business partners and expand our portfolio to include new areas,” said ALPLA reginal managing director of Africa, Middle East, and Turkey, Javier Delgado. “By manufacturing bottles, preforms and closures, as we already do in South Africa and Angola, we provide customers with successful products and sustainable solutions from a single source, giving them a market advantage.”
 
The joint venture was signed by the contracting parties in August of 2023 and have been approved by local antitrust authorities. Terms and conditions were not disclosed.
