Domino Digital Printing Solutions on Monday said it is set to launch a new 7-color ink set for the N-Series Digital Label Press at Labelexpo Europe 2017 (Stand 9A60). The new Domino in-house developed and manufactured UV90 ink set has been specifically designed to address a range of common issues faced by the industry as digital ink jet label printing takes over from older generation technologies. Designed and optimized for use specifically with the Domino N610i hardware and workflow, the new UV90 ink set has improved coverage and print quality on many media types, particularly in areas of low density tints. When used in High Quality Mode (50m/min) the ink set can accurately reproduce over 92 percent of the Pantone range, even more impressive is that in High Speed Mode (70m/min) the new ink set can still reproduce over 90 percent of the Pantone range. As compliance is such an important factor when printing for food packaging, UV90 has been formulated to be both EuPIA and Swiss Ordinance compliant. The UV90 ink set has significantly improved adhesion across a wide range of industry standard substrates, reducing the need for inline priming, or the need to use more expensive pre-coated medias. All early customers have reported superior adhesion levels across all tested media types and confirmed that neither priming nor pre-coated media is required. This allows significant savings to be made to their overall production costs. “Domino’s new UV90 ink set provides a number of attributes such as improved adhesion levels across paper and film substrates, increased cure rates and improved overall print performance,” said Scott Fisher, president of Smyth Companies. Additional improvements have also been made to other mechanical properties. Lightfastness scores have a significantly higher rating when measured with the Blue Wool Scale, achieving the highest possible score of eight on most media types. Abrasion resistance is also greatly improved to maximise the shelf-life and shelf appeal of the final printed products. The white opacity of the Domino N610i label press has always been the highest in the industry but with the UV90 ink set this has been further improved, achieving over 72 percent opacity at 50m/min. “We are expecting that the new UV90 ink set will be well received by the industry and look forward to demonstrating its capabilities on our stand at Labelexpo Europe,” said Simon Howes, product manager for the N-Series at Domino Digital Printing Solutions. Labelexpo Europe takes place Sept. 25-28 in Brussels.
