Direct Edge Media has increased speed and throughput with its new Onset X3, a high productivity UV flatbed printer distributed exclusively in North America by Fujifilm Graphic Systems Division.

A leading full-service printing company with offerings including large format, digital sheetfed, offset, bindery, direct mail, fulfillment and supply chain solutions for well-known global clients within retail, banking institutions, beverage companies and restaurants, Direct Edge Media opened their doors in 2001 with a small roll-to-roll photo printer, producing photo albums. The company recently relocated to a 50,000 square foot facility in Anaheim, CA, with the ability to easily expand and double their square footage to meet ever-growing client needs.

“The Onset X3 is what I consider the top of the line in the flatbed world,” said Ryan Clark, co-founder and president, Direct Edge Media. “We’ve been part of the Fujifilm family for a long time; from their presses that were doing 10 beds an hour, and now we are highly productive with up to 200 beds an hour. We’ve regularly upgraded within Fujifilm’s line-up of presses, and it’s been a great relationship.”

With a maximum throughput of nearly 10,000 square feet per hour, the Onset X3 is ideal for companies such as Direct Edge Media producing fast-turnaround retail graphics. Direct Edge Media’s Onset X3 feature two channels of White ink, as well as semi-automatic robotic handling system.

“The most defining feature of our Onset X3 is the robotic handling system,” said Ryan Brueckner, CEO, Direct Edge Media. “From an efficiency standpoint I think it’s the best material-handling exit and feed that I’ve ever experienced. It can handle flexible substrates extremely well.

“Recently we completed a very large lenticular job on the Onset X3,” said Brueckner. “We were able to successfully run over 1,000 sheets with a four-color process, and a White ink layer.” Added Clark, “A colleague suggested it would take weeks to complete the lenticular job, and with the Onset X3 we had it done in a couple days.”
