The Academy of Screen and Digital Printing Technologies (ASDPT) inducted its newest members — Alan Howe of SAATI Americas and Graeme Richardson–Locke of FESPA — on Oct. 19 at the 2018 SGIA Expo at the Las Vegas Convention Center. Established in 1973 by the Specialty Graphic Imaging Association (SGIA) Board of Directors, ASDPT is an international body of expert printers, suppliers and educators who have made significant contributions to the growth of the screen and digital printing industries. Each year, the Academy accepts nominations for new members who have demonstrated an industry commitment through their work and/or educational efforts. The Academy also presented Mark Coudray of Coudray Growth Technologies the 2018 Dave Swormstedt, Sr. Memorial Award, an honor given to the author of an outstanding technical article published in the previous calendar year. Coudray received the award for his article, “Optimizing Your Flash Curing,” published in the August/September 2017 edition of ST Media’s Screen Printing magazine. Alan Howe, SAATI Americas Howe has more than 30 years of industry experience, beginning his career with an equipment manufacturer in 1987. Prior to his current role as technical sales representative with SAATI Chemicals, a division of SAATI Americas, he has held technical sales and management positions with companies such as Jay Products, Progressive Foam Technologies Inc. and Easiway Systems. He sold the very first ROQ textile press in the U.S. in 2013. Howe has led seminars on screen making, top printing fundamentals, bleeding and dye migration and more. He has also had several published articles, earning Printwear’s Readers’ Choice Award. In addition to his experience teaching screen printing and screen making at high schools, he has been a volunteer judge since 2015 for the National SkillsUSA Championship, which showcases the best career and technical education students. Graeme Richardson-Locke, FESPA Richardson-Locke, FESPA’s head of technical support and a FESPA Awards judge, has nearly 35 years of industry experience. Over the course of his career, he has written and presented FESPA’s first color management workshop, supported the London College of Printing Degree and HND courses, and helped develop the National Vocational Qualification in Screen Printing — which he was the first to pass in the UK. In 1990, he organized free screen printing equipment for children with Cerebral Palsy at the Ptolemy Reid Rehabilitation Centre in Guyana. The owner of Eye 4 Colour, a fine art printing company, Richardson-Locke’s expertise spans functional, graphics, nameplate and T-shirt printing. He has written for Screen Process, Screen & Digital Printer and Specialist Printing Worldwide.
