Mayer-Kuvert signed a contract to purchase two W+D 628 envelope machines with the option of later acquiring a third machine.

At this year’s W+D Direct Mail Days, the company experienced the new W+D 628 envelope machine live. It is equipped with state-of-the-art control technology and complemented by the extended W+D 201 inline high definition flexo printing system with LED UV drying.

The new high-speed single flow W+D system showed flexo printing that competed with the more complex sheet-fed litho workflow and print quality.

Mayer-Kuvert had previously purchased 10 W+D Halm i-Jet 2 four-color high-speed digital inkjet printing machines at last year’s event.

Besides the production and distribution of a broad range of standard envelopes, which can also be custom-printed, Mayer-Kuvert-network focuses on the production of customized advertising envelopes for increasing direct mail response rates.

“When we saw the W+D 628 at Direct Mail Days and the printing and production results that ultimately landed on the output table, we were immediately convinced,” said Thomas Schwarz, CEO of Mayer-Kuvert. “This machine addresses the exact area in which we in Western Europe had to produce more cost-intensively in the past due to the many individual process steps. The inline production of the W+D 628 now offers us the opportunity to realize sophisticated and at the same time very attractive mailings in a single step.”

The first machine will be delivered to England in March and the second to Poland at the end of May. Both will then begin to produce envelopes within a very short time. The company plans to produce mainly medium runs and up to 200 million envelopes per year per machine.
