Brings 27 years of industry experience and knowledge to the position
August 30, 2010
By: DAVID SAVASTANO
Contributing Editor, Coatings World and Ink World
Sun Chemical named Charles Murray president of North American Inks. In this role, Mr. Murray will be responsible for all of Sun Chemical’s North American ink business. Mr. Murray brings 27 years of industry experience and knowledge to the position, and most recently worked as the managing director and corporate vice president of Sun Chemical’s business in the UK, Ireland and Nordic markets since 2004. “Charles is very familiar with the issues and challenges currently impacting Sun Chemical’s customers in North America, because those same trends are facing our customers in Northern Europe,” said Rudi Lenz, president and CEO, Sun Chemical. “Charles’ understanding of our markets and his hands-on leadership style is exactly what NAI needs. I am confident he will further strengthen our business and the partnerships with our customers.” For at least five consecutive years, Mr. Murray has appeared as one of Print Week’s “Power 100,” a list of the most powerful people in print in the UK. He ranked 33 on the list in 2010. Prior to joining Sun Chemical in 1998, Mr. Murray ran multiple packaging print converters across Europe for Courtaulds Plc. He also worked as the managing director of a flexible packaging converter, where he grew the business significantly and helped the company become the preferred supplier to many well known food manufacturers. Mr. Murray became the youngest general manager in the history of Associated British Foods, where he worked after graduating with a bachelor’s degree in business studies from the University of Edinburgh. He also holds a master’s degree in business administration. Mr. Murray replaces Brian Leen, who is leaving the graphic arts industry after an 18 year career at Sun Chemical. Mr. Leen led the company’s North American business since 2008. “Brian has made countless contributions to Sun Chemical, and we are grateful for his time with us. We wish him well in his next endeavors,” Mr. Lenz said.
