For more than 30 years, Corey Soeldner, VP of procurement North America for Sun Chemical, has been a highly regarded member of Sun Chemical’s Purchasing Department, combining his extensive knowledge of the raw material market with a very professional and highly ethical approach.
Soeldner joined Sun Chemical when an opportunity for a supervisory role came up.
“I was offered a role to gain supervisory experience at Sun Chemical, so I left my position at a major can manufacturer to pursue an advancement opportunity,” he said.
Soeldner has seen many changes throughout the years, including fluctuating raw material and oil prices, force majeures, natural disasters, and most recently, COVID-19. He is well known for partnering with internal and external stakeholders to collaborate on new products, supply alternatives and regulations.
He said that receiving the Pioneer Award is a great honor.
“Certainly, receiving the Pioneer Award is a highlight!” Soeldner said. “Also, there have been so many great experiences traveling globally to very interesting destinations and meeting a vast amount of people within Sun Chemical and our global internal and external network.”
Soeldner said that the ink industry has changed in many ways over the past three decades.
“Of course, the technology across all functions from a paper-driven administrative environment to the electronic digital management of communication and business processes at all levels,” he noted.
“The technical sophistication of our products to satisfy customer requirements from a performance and environmental perspective has advanced immensely and continues to do so at an incredible pace.”
Soeldner said he is extremely fortunate to have been associated with so many influential individuals during his career.
“I would say the entire Sun Chemical culture has been the greatest influence,” he added. “It is the same people-oriented environment today as it was 30 years ago, committed to its employees’ well-being and success while achieving the organization’s business objectives. This culture translates also to the way we treat our customers as well as all valued business partners throughout the entire supply chain.”
Outside of work, Soeldner enjoys numerous hobbies, beginning with his family.
“I enjoy spending time with my family,” he said. “Our three children are adults now and each of their lives have evolved, and although still one family unit, it offers a vast amount of very enjoyable diversity in their interests and engagement. I also enjoy playing golf and staying committed to a fitness regimen that consists of many activities.”
Soeldner said the Pioneer Award is a significant honor.
“For 30 years, I worked with many influential people in the industry and at Sun Chemical and witnessed how their achievements earned them the award,” he concluded. “It becomes so ironic and rewarding that you experience that evolution and then you become part of that evolution and history in the industry.”
