In an ever-changing world, there are few constants, and the COVID-19 pandemic serves as a painful reminder of that.
As far as the ink industry is concerned, the world of printing is evolving as well, and not just the gradual shift from conventional to digital printing.
Ten years ago, the topic of sustainability was not front and center in most companies’ lives. Today, sustainability and related topics such as compostability, recyclability and sourcing are frequently discussed. In “Raw Materials are Critical to Sustainability,” leading raw material suppliers talk about the importance of sustainability, both in their operations as well as in their conversations with customers. The bottom line is that ink manufacturers are asking their suppliers questions about sustainability.
The changes in the regulatory world have, by contrast, not been as sudden as the interest in sustainability, but are also changing. In “The Ink Industry Copes with Regulatory Issues,” leaders from key trade associations including NAPIM, RadTech and CPMA, talk about the challenges they are facing in food packaging and regulating chemicals such as PCBs. For industry leaders, keeping up with changing regulatory standards is a lot of work.
These changes can also be seen in “The Pigment Industry Rebounds in 2022,” in which I spoke with ink industry leaders as well as analysts about what they are seeing in the market. They are reporting growth, but also a greater interest in sustainability matters and regulatory support.
For the ink industry and its suppliers, meeting sustainability and regulatory needs remains critical, and keeping up with the latest and best information and trends is essential.
