International Coatings (Cerritos, CA) was founded in 1957, an early pioneer in the development and manufacturing of industrial coatings, adhesives and plastic compounds.
“As interest in apparel decoration grew, we led the way in the development and production of textile screenprinting inks for both direct and transfer applications,” said Steve Kahan, president and CEO.
International Coatings is known for its high-performance Nylon inks, its low-bleed whites, its FlexCure product line, which features flexible curing ranges, and its full range of non-PVC ink products.
“They helped establish our reputation for producing products that perform and are of consistently high quality,” Kahan said.
Currently, International Coatings also offers traffic marking paints as well as a range of vinyl, urethane and water-based industrial compounds, adhesives and coatings.
“Our traffic paints are on some of the busiest roads, airport tarmacs, parking lots and sports venues in the country,” Kahan said.
International Coatings’ formulations and products can be seen in or on automobiles and recreational vehicles, toys, medical appliances, military and aerospace applications, sports equipment, sportswear, athletic jerseys and bags, and baseball caps, according to Kahan.
Developing solutions for challenging applications helps set International Coatings apart from its competitors, Kahan noted.
“More often than not, the name of the game in plastics and industrial coatings is custom formulating and compounding,” the president and CEO said. “This is where our skilled chemists and technicians shine. They’ve worked together for years formulating a wide variety of compounds, including textile screenprinting inks, traffic marking paints, coatings and adhesives for a variety of substrates, two-part polyurethane systems, solvent- and water-base primers, and synthetic rubber-based coatings. We’re proud that our products are recognized for their performance and consistent quality, and are supported by responsive and outstanding customer service.”
Kahan said that innovation is vital, so International Coatings invests heavily in R&D and in developing new and better products that respond to market demand and help elevate the company’s end-users’ success.
“Quality products, innovation and superior customer service have been the hallmarks of International Coatings Company’s long history,” he added.
The company recently released several new textile screen-printing ink lines – FlexCure, which features flexible curing range inks, and a non-PVC line, AXEON, that outshines the best water-base inks (the other leading non-PVC ink technology), both in performance and print cost savings, per Kahan.
The president and CEO said Cool White, which is part of the FlexCure line of products, “has taken the screenprinting industry by storm with its advanced print characteristics and low cure ability.”
AXEON non-PVC, non-phthalate inks were developed to meet the sustainability demands of today’s consumers without compromising the performance and durability demands expected by the printer, he said.
“AXEON can be used as an eco-forward, in-line substitute for plastisol inks or water-based inks,” Kahan continued. “It can be printed just like plastisol – no need to change emulsion, curing temperatures, or dryer speeds and there’s no learning curve. Its eco-forward formulation saves time, energy and costs compared to printing with traditional water-based or high solids water-based inks.”
The AXEON line of non-PVC acrysol-based inks includes a Pantone Color-Matching system, additives and special effects.
AXEON is compliant with major Restricted Substance Lists, ensuring each formulation meets the compliance standards of major brands,
Kahan said.
International Coatings believes the demand for apparel decoration and textile printing will remain strong, though the nature of the market – retail models, supply chain demands and technologies – will change.
“To remain relevant,” Kahan said, “We plan to keep a sharp focus on offering products that enable and elevate brands, apparel decorators and printers. We will continue to improve our core product line and introduce new inks that will allow printers and decorators to meet evolving market demands, elevate their art and be successful.
“There are still many improvements and innovative products yet to be discovered. We plan to be at the forefront of those discoveries.”
