SICPA, in collaboration with the autonomous region of the Aosta Valley and EXPO VDA, presented the pilot project “Authentication and Traceability of Protected Designation of Origin Products of the Aosta Valley.”
This is a first-of-its-kind experimental project in Italy. Among its objectives are the promotion and introduction of a comprehensive system for traceability and authentication in the agro-food industry. At the same time, the project promotes local producers and products, emphasizing its origin and history.
The key element is a label that contains important security features, similar to those used in the protection of banknotes and other value documents such as passports. Combined with digital security, the QR code and a unique identifier used for serialization, the solution offers high level protection against counterfeiting.
Following the pilot, the full solution will encompass the collection and exchange of comprehensive traceability information, from raw materials to point of sale, and be supported by sophisticated business reporting tools. These will make available tracking information and statistics on production volumes, processing and distribution. The authorities will also have access to the relevant information.
SICPA’s system can be adapted to many different types of product supply chains, from food to other industrial goods. It is appropriate both for major industries with automated high speed production lines as well as small to medium-sized companies with handcrafted goods and manual processes.
