Comments: With $24.6 billion in sales in 2016, DuPont prides itself on being a science company focusing on solutions for many industries. In the printing space, DuPont has a major presence in inkjet, where it produces OEM and textile inkjet inks, and printed electronics and solar, where it manufactures conductive inks and pastes.
For the full year, DuPont’s sales declined 2% due to local sales and currency each lowered sales by 1%. Free cash flow improved $1.6 billion though, driven primarily by higher earnings, lower capital expenditures, lower tax payments and working capital improvements.
“2016 was an important year for DuPont as we exceeded our expectations for earnings, cost savings, operating margin expansion and free cash flow improvement,” said Ed Breen, chairman and CEO of DuPont.
In December 2015, DuPont and The Dow Chemical Company shook the chemical industry with the announcement that the companies would combine in an all-stock merger of equals named DowDuPont. The initial estimate was that the merger would be completed by 3Q 2016. The expected completion of the merger has been pushed back to the midway through 2017.
DuPont is a huge international company, with operations in numerous fields. On the digital printing side, the company is a leader in inks for desktop printers, working closely with OEM partners. The company is also active in the digital textile ink market, working alongside EFI Reggiani while also developing its own line of Artistri digital textile inks.
The company launched DuPont Artistri Xite S1500 dye sublimation ink, designed for printing on polyester textile substrates. DuPont also introduced Artistri Brite inks for the direct-to-garment market.
DuPont also is heavily involved in the solar and printed electronics markets. DuPont Photovoltaic Solutions is a leader in metallization pastes for PV. DuPont Microcircuit Materials (MCM) focuses on functional inks and organic light emitting diodes (OLEDs).
