On the press side, FUJIFILM presses include the Acuity, J Press and Graphium systems, as well as working closely with Inca Digital on its OnsetX line of printers.
FUJIFILM has two divisions that manufacture inks: FUJIFILM North America Corporation, Graphics Systems Division and FUJIFILM Imaging Colorants (FFIC). The company has five ink factories globally.
Larry Hettinger, product manager, Graphic & Industrial Screen Inks, FUJIFILM North America Corporation, Graphics Systems Division, said that FUJIFILM did well in all of its segments in 2018.
“Fujifilm’s sales of ink into a diverse range of market segments remain strong with manufacturing volumes growing year on year,” Hettinger noted. “The majority of this growth is due to higher sales of inkjet inks in the sign and display segment, and is driven in part by being faster than ever, with printhead and ink development driving faster output and higher quality. Fujifilm is leading the transition in inkjet printing technology through innovations in printheads and inkjet inks, and by bringing inkjet solutions to customers previously served through our heritage business in the screen and offset printing markets. Although we are proud to provide a wide variety of analog and digital print solutions to the commercial, newspaper and sign & display segments, we expect the majority of our incremental growth to come from the Packaging and Industrial print sectors over the next few years. Fujifilm believes the analog markets are at the tipping point where LED will begin to replace a significant amount of traditional UV arc and water-based printing.”
In June 2019, FUJIFILM and Inca Digital launched the new OnsetX HS (High Speed) range of UV flatbed printers. For this printer, Fujifilm Speciality Ink Systems in the UK introduced Uvijet OX, a new Fujifilm inkjet range, including a brand new, patented ink technology. Available as a six-color CMYK Lc Lm set, Uvijet OX offers exceptional adhesion on rigid plastic media, the company noted.
“The launch of the new Uvijet OX ink set marks what we at Fujifilm believe to be a milestone in ink development for the inkjet industry – a high-performance specialist ink with the strongest adhesion to the widest range of challenging rigid plastic substrates,” said David Burton, commercial director, Fujifilm Specialty Ink Systems in announcing the launch. “Fujifilm has worked closely with the team at Inca Digital throughout the ink development process. Our challenge was to develop a completely new UV ink technology that would dramatically increase adhesion to a range of rigid substrates, but critically, without compromising on the robustness, reliability and quality the Onset X printing platforms are known for.
“The print industry continues to evolve at pace and our challenge at Fujifilm Speciality Ink Systems is to continue to play a key role in defining where the industry is going and help printing companies to diversify and expand their offering to meet all the challenges and opportunities the market presents,” Burton added.
