The growth of packaging and digital printing is one of the success stories for ink manufacturers, and leading ink companies are expanding their production capabilities in these fields.
Toyo Ink America is making significant moves in these segments, as the company is expanding its manufacturing capabilities in the U.S. by building a new East Coast plant for its ink portfolio.
The new 70,000 square foot facility, located in Carlstadt, NJ, houses production for liquid, paste and digital ink manufacturing. It also offers a state-of-the-art R&D and QC laboratory. Presently, Toyo Ink America has more than 30 employees at the new site, which opened in October 2014.
“Our new plant opening in Carlstadt, NJ is one of the highlights for the year,” said John Copeland, Toyo Ink America’s president and COO. “It is one of our four primary liquid ink manufacturing locations, and also allows us to blend paste inks and produce digital inks.”
The new site allowed Toyo Ink America to combine its 13,000 square foot East Rutherford, NJ blending facility and 30,000 square foot South Plainfield, NJ liquid ink manufacturing location. The site is in close proximity to major highways, which Copeland said is an important benefit.
The new Carlstadt facility, combined with Toyo Ink America’s existing facilities in Wood Dale, IL, Cypress, CA and Bryan, TX, allows the company to domestically produce all of the water-based, solvent-based and UV flexo and gravure inks it sells in the U.S.
“We looked at a lot of sites,” Copeland added. “We wanted to be centrally located for local customers as well as finding a nice location that would appeal to our customers and employees.”
