Gerd Brand, currently president of Nippon Aerosil Co. Ltd., Japan, and also head of the Aerosil standard product line, moved to Degussa’s Coatings & Colorants Business Unit on July 1, 2007. Following an orientation period, he will take over as head of the crosslinkers business line on Sept.1, 2007. He succeeds Dr. Wilfried Schmidt, who, after more than 27 years of successful work for the company, will then be entering the release phase of partial retirement.
Mr. Brand joined Degussa in Hanau as an industrial clerk apprentice in 1976, successfully completing his apprenticeship two years later. Until late 1983, he held various sales and marketing posts in the then metals unit of Degussa, rising to sales group manager in the special metals department.
Between 1984 and 1988, Mr. Brand worked for Degussa in Taiwan, initially as a delegate and then as deputy general manager of Degussa Taiwan Co. Ltd. For the following four and a half years, he headed Degussa’s liaison office in India, with responsibility for Degussa’s activities on the subcontinent. Returning to Frankfurt in mid-1993, Mr. Brand worked initially as product manager for Aerosil before being appointed head and later vice president of the Aerosil standard product line in 1997. In August 2002 he also took over the management of Nippon Aerosil in Japan, along with responsibility for Aerosil in the Asia region.
