Colorants that are soluble in water or solvents, and chemically bonds itself to the substrate. They can be either natural or synthetic, although almost all dyes that are used today are synthetic, and most are a derivative of benzene. Dyes are used frequently in textiles, and offer excellent lightfastness and water resistance.
