Gerald K. Braznell, 78, a 46-year veteran of the ink industry and 1985 recipient of the National Association of Printing Ink Manufacturers’ (NAPIM) Ault Award, died Monday, Dec. 7, 2009 from complications of diabetes in Chesterfield, MO.
During his career in the ink industry, Mr. Braznell served as president and CEO of Braznell Company, and went on to serve as CEO of both Midland Color and INX International Ink Company as well as president of Heritage Inks. He also served as NAPIM’s president from 1980 to 1983, and was a recipient of NAPIM’s Printing Ink Pioneer Award in 1975.
Mr. Braznell was active in programs for people with disabilities. He served two terms into the early 1980s on the board of the Special School District of St. Louis County and was a founder in 1967 of the Good Shepherd School for Children in Creve Coeur, which serves children with special needs. He was a football referee for area high school and college games and for the old World Football League, a professional league that operated in 1974 and 1975.
A graduate of University City High School and the University of Missouri-Columbia, Mr. Braznell served in the Air Force.
Among the survivors are two sons, Richard Braznell of St. Louis and Bill Braznell of Columbia, MO; a daughter, Lynn Hedrick of Des Peres, MO; three grandchildren; and one great-grandson. His wife, Barbara, died in 2005.
