Jackson Paper Manufacturing Co., a US corrugated board provider, is expanding operations with the launch of digital printing services on the industrial-grade HP PageWide C500 digital press, as it expands its sustainable corrugated range of products.
The new HP PageWide C500 press will operate at Sustainable Printing, a new Jackson Paper digital printing arm located in Georgia, where the unit will be installed this summer.
Headquartered in North Carolina, Jackson produces and supplies 100% recyclable corrugated medium to corrugated box makers throughout the United States via Jackson Corrugated and Sustainable Corrugated Company, HP said.
Sustainable Printing will operate as a wholesale trade printer for on-demand digital printing of litho quality corrugated boxes for its sheet clients.
The new HP PageWide C500 press production will enable Jackson Papers to tap into the growing high-graphics packaging market for e-commerce, shelf-ready, and food and pharma applications, according to HP.
“The purchase of the HP PageWide C500 expands our sustainability offering to our customers and market with high quality, more sustainable digital printing," said Thomas Barker, executive VP of Jackson Paper Manufacturing Co. "As a corrugated board expert and supplier for the graphics printing industry, adding on services for graphic printed boards will uniquely position Sustainable Printing to deliver an exceptionally high-quality product along with breakthrough time to market."
The HP PageWide C500, based on HP Thermal Inkjet technology, provides offset print quality for a wide range of corrugated packaging and display applications on both coated and uncoated sheets, delivering sharp text and barcodes, smooth tone transitions and vivid colors, for low to high volumes of sheets, according to HP.
The press prints at 246 linear ft/min in top print quality with 1200 npi resolution using one million nozzles.
According to Barker, the HP true water-based inks also allow the company to further its sustainability position in the target markets of food as well as health and beauty categories.
HP C500 true water-based inks can be used to print the most sensitive corrugated box applications, including for food products and agricultural produce coming in direct contact with the inside of the box, HP said.
The HP inks can meet stringent food safety requirements such as USDA FDA 21 CFR, Nestlé guidance, Swiss Ordinance, and EuPIA.
