"Convention plans proceed, but organizers are making your health our top priority," NAPIM's Executive Director John Copeland and president James Leitch wrote in a statement regarding the 2020 NAPIM Spring Convention in Arizona.
"We are about six weeks away from the 2020 NAPIM Spring Convention to be held at the Wigwam Arizona," the statement reads. "In light of the recent events related to the new coronavirus (COVID-19), we felt it was important to connect with you and give an update on the status of our convention. NAPIM is all about supporting the health and wellbeing of our members. Be assured that the safety of our members and participants of our convention take top priority above everything else.
"There are organizations in the health and safety industries, the Center for Disease Control (CDC), the U.S. Government agencies and other medical/disease experts that NAPIM will rely on for its information," the statement reads. "We did not want to respond prematurely to this crisis before more information and research were presented by the experts.
"The assessments from these agencies and experts continue to say the risk of this virus is low," the statement continues. "We currently do not plan to cancel or postpone the convention this year.
"The venue, Wigwam Arizona, is monitoring updates and assures us that practices are in place to maintain hygienic cleaning practices and maintenance of the resort," the statement said. "The last couple of days have seen airlines and travel-related companies increase cleaning practices, upgrade air filtering and increased use of anti-bacterial wipes and hand sanitizers in their day to day business practices."
The CDC has issued these tips for the public:
