The Metro New York Printing Ink Association (MNYPIA) announced that its May meeting will be a tribute to Rick Clendenning of INX, who has been named the 18th recipient of the club’s Anthony Mauriello Man of the Year award.

Rick Clendenning
Rick Clendenning attended the University of California at Fullerton where he received a BA in business administration and marketing. In 1971, Rick started his ink career as a tub washer in Acme Printing Ink’s plant in Fullerton, CA. He was soon promoted to the laboratory and then on to an in-plant facility. In 1979, the company moved him and his young family to Acme’s Charlotte, NC facility, where he was given the responsibility for the laboratory and manufacturing and subsequently played a vital role in the formulation and introductions of new and innovative products for the industry.
In 1983, Rick was promoted to VP of Acme Printing Ink with regional operational responsibility and some national account sales responsibility as well. His next step in 1992, after Acme became part of SAKATA INX of Japan, was to take full responsibility for all the metal decorating operations and sales globally. In 1994 he was elected to the INX International Ink Company Board of Directors and a year later promoted to SVP in charge of international and metal deco operations. Late in 1998, he was given the responsibility for all INX’s operations in North America and globally. In the fall of 1999, he was promoted to the position of president of INX International Ink Co. and within a few years, he was also named CEO.
Rick was recognized in 1997 by receiving NAPIM’s (National Association of Printing Ink Manufacturers) Pioneer Award. He has been on the Board of NAPIM since 1999 and became a member of the Executive Committee in 2002. In 2007, Rick was presented with NAPIM’s Ault Award, which is the highest award that members of the ink industry can bestow on one of their peers, and was NAPIM’s president the following two years. Rick has also been a member of the IMDA (International Metal Decorators Association) for 20 years and served as their president in 2006 through 2007. Most recently, in February of this year, Rick was awarded a Lifetime Achievement Award at the LATAM Can Association event in Mexico City.
Rick, after being in the ink industry for over 48 years, will retire soon after being president and CEO of INX International for almost 20 years. In retirement, Rick plans to spend time with his wife of 48 years, Kitty, and his two son’s families that include six grandchildren. Rick loves the ink industry and the people he worked with and met and would like to thank everyone that helped him and our industry for so many years.
The meeting will be held on Thursday, May 2 from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at The Iberia Peninsula Restaurant and will include an open bar reception and dinner. The cost to attend is $95. The Iberia Peninsula Restaurant is located at 63–69 Ferry Street in Newark, NJ. Phone: 973-344-7603.
