Diamond Packaging said it was selected as a recipient of the Seneca Park Zoo Society's Environmental Innovation Award in the Large Business category.
Awards were announced during the inaugural Environmental Innovation Awards and Symposium on Thursday, Oct. 25, 2018, at the Joseph A. Floreano Rochester Riverside Convention Center (Rochester, NY).
The event was developed to celebrate leadership in environmental stewardship, raising the profile of innovative companies and people working to solve complex environmental problems in the Rochester and Finger Lakes Region.
The recipient of the Large Business Award for Environmental Innovation was evaluated on several criteria: Must show an innovative or original solution to current environmental issues; must show evidence of lowering their environmental footprint or the footprint of their customers; solution should be replicable for other companies; sustainability/green practices must be in play throughout the company, and not just one unit or division.
Diamond was recognized for its greenbox initiative to research, design, and implement packaging solutions that are innovative and more sustainable. The initiative balances business with environmental considerations by promoting sustainability in all aspects of package production.
The core of the initiative – designs, materials, and methods – represents a comprehensive approach to packaging that minimizes environmental impact throughout the supply chain.
Through creative design, careful material selection, and best practices at the plant level, Diamond is able to minimize waste, reduce shipping costs and increase efficiencies – all of which support a sustainable use of resources and cultivate a positive emotional connection to the brand.
