The plant has experienced two straight days of clear and sunny weather conditions, allowing staff to initiate clean-up and safety inspections. Some roads are now passable allowing truck movement, and limited rail service has resumed. The Houston ship channel has reopened, and most ports have been certified to start operations.
Evonik’s Deer Park plant did not experience any water damage to tanks, rail cars or inventories. Evonik is in communication with its suppliers to determine their ability to resume delivery of raw materials and services.
The company can confirm that Evonik’s Deer Park operating personnel are unharmed, but several have suffered damage to their homes and property. Safety of its employees, contractors and service providers is Evonik’s number one priority. Evonik is offering financial assistance to its impacted colleagues, and is also sponsoring matching contributions to the American Red Cross.
