Continental Structural Plastics was awarded the 2016 Most Innovative Composite Part Award for Material Innovation at the annual Society of Plastics Engineers Conference and Automotive Composites Conference Exhibition. This award is given to a company who commercializes a material that exemplifies innovative technology for the automotive composites industry.
CSP won the award for the development and commercialization of CSP 834UV SMC which utilizes Chromaflo’s UVSolutions and Accumag technologies. The first commercial application of CSP 834UV SMC is the 2017 Honda Ridgeline unpainted composite truck bed.
“This is the first commercial application of a new class of material that represents a lighter, stronger, more durable alternative to other materials, such as painted metal and thermoplastics,” said Paul Rettinger, technology manager for Thermosets Americas. “We have spent over 20 years developing and refining our UVSolutions technology and are proud to see it move the automotive composites market forward.”
Chromaflo’s UVSolutions technology is used in many molded polyester composite applications to maximize outdoor weatherability. A total system approach is used to deliver the best weathering performance in fiber reinforced plastics.
