R. R. Donnelley & Sons Company announced it has received the 2014 Sustainability Silver Award from the Institute for Supply Management (ISM)-Chicago for its work in the areas of sustainability and safety. The award recognizes organizations that have successfully embraced sustainability and safety initiatives, and encourage innovative collaboration between suppliers and supply management professionals.
“We are extremely honored to receive this award in these two critically important areas,” said Michael D. Manzella, senior vice president and chief sustainability officer environmental, health, safety and quality at RR Donnelley. “Our sustainability approach is highly focused on the areas of resource efficiency, green procurement, waste minimization and stewardship and we work collaboratively to support our customers’ sustainability initiatives as well as those of our suppliers.
“In addition to safety compliance, as we worked to create an environment where employees look out for each other, we noted a step change in performance and a dramatic decrease in injuries as reflected by our company injury rates that are more than 60% below the industry average,” Manzella added.
