Orion Engineered Carbons LLC is introducing two new carbon black products to the packaging ink market. The first product is Printex Nature. This product is made from renewable feedstock sources rather than traditional petroleum oils. It is characterized as a medium color furnace black and is suitable for water based or solvent based inks. It also meets various European purity standards for food packaging applications such as EU Commission Regulation No. 10/2011, Swiss Ordinance 817.023.21 and French AVIS Seance du 07.11.1995. If customers are requiring an ink made from sustainable sources, this product will fill the need.
The second new product is Special Black 535. This product is designed with structure, surface area and surface chemistry optimized for high loading of carbon black in the ink yet still providing excellent flow and ink stability. It also imparts high optical density and gloss to the ink. It is targeted toward the solvent based packaging ink market and is optimal for nitrocellulose and polyamide binder systems. Special Black 535 is available in beaded form for low dusting and easy handling in the processing plant. This product is also compliant with various EU regulations for high purity in indirect food contact applications.
