The Metro New York Printing Ink Association (MNYPIA) announced that its May meeting will be a tribute to Brad Bergey, former executive director of the National Association of Printing Ink Manufacturers (NAPIM), who has been named the 14th recipient of the club’s Anthony Mauriello Man of the Year Bergey had an extensive career in the ink industry, having spent 28 years at Sun Chemical. After he graduated with a degree in economics from Iowa University, he spent three years at IBM before joining GPI as an operations manager in 1978. While at Sun Chemical, he took over positions of increasing responsibility, including branch and district manager, group controller and other operations support assignments before becoming vice president of branch operations in 1992. He became a corporate VP of Sun Chemical in 1995 and COO of Kohl & Madden, before leaving the industry in 2006 after serving as president. While at Sun Chemical, Bergey was the chairman of NAPIM’s Management Committee, which is responsible for analyzing and presenting the annual State of the Industry Report. His efforts on behalf of Sun Chemical and NAPIM earned him the prestigious Printing Ink Pioneer Award from NAPIM in 2004. In 2011, Bergey was selected as the executive director of NAPIM, succeeding Jim Coleman. He retired from NAPIM at the end of 2015, having overseen significant changes within the organization, including relocating the association from its Woodbridge, NJ headquarters and bringing on TAPPI to help with NAPIM’s day-to-day. The MNYPIA changed the Man of the Year award name in 2015 to honor Anthony Mauriello, a founding board member. The meeting will be held on Thursday, May 5, from 6:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. at The Iberia Peninsula Restaurant, and will include a wine and beer bar reception and dinner. The cost to attend is $85. The Iberia Peninsula Restaurant is located at 63 – 69 Ferry Street in Newark, NJ. Phone: 973-344-7603. Please reserve your spot today in what will be a very special and fun evening. To be included, simply sign up on the club’s website, which is www.mnypia.com.
