Printing on silicone is challenging. There are adhesion issues; traditional solvent-based screen and pad printing inks will not cure on silicone, and the ink will easily rub off the product. The only thing that sticks to silicone is silicone.
With its variety of silicone-based inks, Boston Industrial Solutions has solved these challenges and taken a leadership role in the field of silicone-based inks for applications ranging from industrial and medical markets to toys, garments and more.
The company’s motto - Enabling Innovation - sums up Boston Industrial Solutions’ approach to its customers.
“Our history is grounded in technology, research and creating solutions for difficult to print materials,” said Jayson French of Boston Industrial Solutions. “Our interest in the printing market is to solve customer challenges and develop cutting edge solutions and technologies that are easy to use and help move the ink industry forward. In addition to solving difficult to print materials challenges, we are also interested in improving existing printing inks and printing methods - we believe that there is room for advancement.”
Boston Industrial Solutions is a technology company, and as such, French noted that the company places major emphasis on technology, innovation and customer service. For example, Boston Industrial Solutions offers free complementary ink adhesion test for any silicone products, as well as a 24-hour turn around for all ink color matching.
“We dedicate a lot of effort in innovation and figuring out new solutions,” he observed. “We have teams dedicated on doing research and developing new solutions. On the customer service side, our customers come first. We not only work with our customers one on one, but we also use technology to make it easy to work with us. We also extend the same to level of service to our vendors.”
Boston Industrial Solutions is active on the R&D front, developing new ink systems for customers. Its Natron SE Silicone ink is designed for pad printing and screen printing on any item that is made of silicone rubber, such as wristbands, swimming caps and phone cases. Boston Industrial Solutions’ DC Silicone ink, which uses the company’s Dual Cure Technology, is designed for screen and pad printing of products that can’t be cured with heat.
“We’ve developed several silicone ink lines for printing onto silicone rubber using various printing methods, e.g. pad printing, screen printing and spraying,” said French. “These ink lines are superior to any other in the world in terms of compliance, opacity, available colors and ease of use.”
French said that Boston Industrial Solutions lives for challenges. “There are many challenges that customers face every day - we’d love to solve them,” French said. “There are new technologies that need to be developed - we’d like to develop them. There are many opportunities in the ink industry - we’d like to participate in them.
“There is a lot of innovation that needs to be done in the ink industry and in the printing world in general,” he added. “We see ourselves creating new innovations/technologies that will drive the ink industry and printing world forward. Our view is that the future is bright. It is a great time to be in the ink industry.”
