In terms of packaging, the pharmaceutical industry is one of the most demanding businesses. Packages must maintain the utmost security, and perfect printing of instructions is essential.
A subsidiary of Coesia, Hapa is one of the global leaders in the pharmaceutical packaging field. Hapa develops system solutions driven by customer needs and empowered by craftsmanship – to date, the company reports that more than 3,500 systems are in daily use worldwide. Hapa Ink specializes in developing, producing and delivering custom-made inks and supplies to its customers, who range from global OEMs to smaller companies, and offers private labeling.
It is natural that the company took its expertise in equipment and brought it to the ink industry, where Hapa could develop and supply inks ideal for its machines.
“Hapa is well known in the pharmaceutical industry as an inline print machine supplier,” said Mathias Theiler, supervisor ink department at Hapa Ink. “After starting the development of UV curing digital DoD printers for inline applications, we realized the impact of the inks on print quality and the requirement of the pharmaceutical industry for dedicated inks of their applications. The standard available UV DoD inks were not fulfilling these requirements every time.”
With that in mind, Hapa acquired the industrial ink part of Pelikan, and was soon delivering its own UV DoD inks to the customers. Today Hapa is also developing special inks for OEM customers for their applications, from CMYK inks and CcMmYyKk for a larger color space to spot colors, white inks, transparent and fluorescent inks and security inks.
“Hapa is focusing on the pharmaceutical and medical industry with UV DoD inks,” said Theiler. “Inks for food and other application specialties are also among our interests. Hapa is focusing on special applications like inks for blisters, aluminum foils, closures, plastic foils, medical papers, pouches, IV-bags, and also on silicone bracelets.”
Hapa’s emphasis on innovation and service is one of the key drivers in its growth.
“Innovation and service are the most important aim of Hapa and our mother company Coesia,” Theiler noted. “The strategic focuses of Coesia are coordinated well to the worldwide requirements of customers by our key account management. Our most recent advance is the successful printing with UV DoD inks on closures as a high speed and certified low migration application.”
With further new developments, including aqueous inks, Theiler believes that Hapa is well positioned for the future.
“Hapa is also active in the development of aqueous inks for non-absorbing substrates. The longtime experience of our chemists from Pelikan in such kind of inks is beneficial,” Theiler concluded.
