In 1995, Suresh Mahajan started his own company, Modern Printing Colors, under the guidance of Sant Rajinder Singh, a world renowned meditation and spiritual teacher.
Now, 20 years later, Modern Printing Colors is successful, and NAPIM presented Mahajan with the Printing Ink Pioneer Award.
Mahajan’s path to the flushed color business came after he had received his master’s degree in chemistry in 1977 from Roosevelt University. He joined General Press, earning promotions to lab manager, technical director, vice president, and president before starting his own company.
Mahajan said, “I learned so much from Cass Grabacki. He taught me the facets of business and molded me into a better businessman.”
Receiving the Pioneer Award came as a surprise to Mahajan.
“I was shocked,” Mahajan said. “I didn’t expect it. I am honored.”
In addition, Mahajan is a longtime member of the Chicago Printing Ink Production Club, and received its’ 2011 Supplier of the Year award.
Outside of work, Mahajan and his wife of 35 years, Neera, have two daughters and a grandchild. He enjoys travelling and hopes to see the entire world. Mahajan credits meditation as an important influence, as he has been doing so for nearly 48 years.
“I meditate, which allows me to think about higher powers,” Mahajan noted. “Sant Rajinder Singh is a large influence on my life. He’s made me a better person.”
Mahajan said that ultimately, hard work is important to success.
“If people work hard, they can succeed,” he said. “As Sant Rajinder Singh says, work hard, but don’t let your work get to your heart.”
