Every four years (it will change to every three years after 2016), the global printing industry heads to Dusseldorf, Germany for drupa. Previously, the show was a full two weeks, but this year, drupa will be held from May 31-June 10 at Messe Dusseldorf.
Drupa is a gigantic show, spanning 19 halls of Messe Dusseldorf. In 2012, more than 300,000 attendees gathered to see 1,844 exhibitors, which covered nearly 166,000 square meters, or roughly 1.8 million square feet, of space.
By all accounts, drupa 2016 should be similar, with digital technologies dominating the trade floor. Major players such as HP, Landa, EFI, Heidelberg, FUJIFILM and more have large stands ready for visitors.
The printing ink industry is also well represented, with Flint Group, Toyo Ink, Sakata INX, Siegwerk Druckfarben and many others on hand to show customers their latest innovations.
Here is what attendees can look forward to from some of the largest ink manufacturers:
• Flint Group: Under the theme of “Let’s colour the world together,” Flint Group will be showcasing its new addition of Xeikon and more during drupa 2016.
Flint Group will have three location where it will show its “One team, One Future, One Flint Group” program. According to the company, Hall 3 will have a small Flint Group information booth; Hall 8b will showcase Flint Group Flexographic Products Division and Thermoflex prepress portfolios; and Hall 8a will be the home for Flint Group’s new Digital Printing Solutions Division, with Flint Group and Xeikon the focus.
• Toyo Ink Group: Toyo Ink Co., Ltd., Toyo Ink Arets N.V. and Toyo Morton Co., Ltd. will show the company’s latest technologies for printing and packaging at drupa.
These new technologies include the new Flash Dry FL Kaleido series of UV-curable flexo inks for flexible packaging; LioFlex Aqua Liona NFQD water-based flexo inks for flexible packaging; SteraFlex UV flexo inks; SteraPlast Food and SteraCup Plus series of specialty inks and coatings.
“At drupa 2016, the Toyo Ink Group will feature our comprehensive portfolio of packaging technologies and solutions for flexo printing, UV/EB curable printing, retort pouch production and eco-friendly water-based systems,” said Katsumi Yamazaki, president of Toyo Ink Co. Ltd.
• INX International Ink Co./Sakata INX: INX International Ink Co. and its parent company, Sakata INX, will show inks and other products for digital, packaging, commercial and industrial printing at drupa.
There will be an emphasis on packaging, with lamination inks for flexible packaging and water-based inks with high color strength for corrugated and inkjet inks. INX will also feature new UV/EB ink technology for commercial printing, including INX UV LED and HUV/LE inks.
Outside of inks, INX will show the CGS digital proofing system for flexible packaging, while INX Digital will highlight its Direct-to-Object printing solution and JetINX integrated imaging components.
“We are excited to be back at drupa and looking forward to introducing our new technology,” said Rick Clendenning, president and CEO of INX International Ink Co.
• Siegwerk Druckfarben: Under the slogan, “We color the future,” Siegwerk will show its latest in packaging ink technology as well as its launch into inkjet inks.
The company will also launch its new efforts in the inkjet ink field.
Siegwerk has been emphasizing UV LED ink technology, including Sicura Nutriflex LEDTec, a low migration LED UV flexo ink for food and pharma packages.
Eco-friendly inks are also an area of interest, with Siegwerk showing its new UniRICS water-based ink system, which contains renewable hybrid acrylic resin partially based on plants, as well as its UniXYL water-based flexo series, formulated with forestry-based components for paper and board.
On the digital side, Siegwerk has built a dedicated inkjet laboratory at its Technical Center in Annemasse, France, with an eye on the label market.
“As the world’s leading trade show for graphic and industrial print, drupa is an ideal touch point for exchanging information and ideas with our customers,” said Hugo Noordhoek Hegt, president Packaging EMEA at Siegwerk.
• Bordeaux Digital Printink: Bordeaux will showcase a wide portfolio of inks during drupa, including its Plasma HF and Eden PG UV inks. The Eden PG inks are universal inks designed for digital textiles.
“We are proud to present a comprehensive ink solution that will truly add colors to all aspects of life and from a single source,” said Guy Evron, Boredeaux’s marketing director. “Our whole stand will be designed with artwork printed on a full range of applications, from textile to home décor as well as industrial applications such as counter tops, tiles and personal items.”
• Marabu: Marabu, a screen and inkjet ink specialist, will exhibit its Plug & Print inkjet ink for ECO-SOL MAX 3 for Roland printers, “Cold Peel” digital textile transfer printing ink for T-shirts, and a variety of UV direct printing inks for glass.
• Proell KG: Proell KG will highlight a variety of new inks, including Norilux DC screenprinting lacquers; Noriphan XWR screen inks for IMD/FIM; NoriCure CCI, a UV-curable screenprinting ink developed for plastic cards; and Tampo-Jet GMI, a two-component pad printing ink for printing on glass and metals.
