Kevin Kingman is no stranger to receiving awards from the ink industry. In 2014, Kingman, technical director, heatset inks at Flint Group, received NAPIM’s 2014 Technical Achievement Award. This year, he added the Printing Ink Pioneer Award to his list of honors.
“I was very surprised, honored and grateful to receive this award,” Kingman said. “It is especially meaningful this year, considering this is NAPIM’s 100th anniversary.
“I am very thankful to Flint Group as a company, and also to all the special people within our industry who have supported me along the way,” he added. “I owe a special thanks to a handful of people from Flint Group, including Bill Miller, Michael Podd, Don Rose, Ron Gallas and especially Diane Parisi.”
Kingman was hired by Flint Group for a summer job in 1984, and was asked to stay on as a technician. In 2003, he was promoted to his current position. He has been integrally involved in research, technology advancements and product development in the heatset, news and packaging ink segments, resulting in five patents and the introduction of Flint Group’s versatile Arroweb Ink System.
Kingman’s colleagues are delighted that he received the Pioneer Award.
“Kevin’s work in the heatset ink sector has been felt far and wide,” said Miller, president – Print Media Transatlantic, Flint Group. “For example, Kevin was instrumental in implementing Six Sigma techniques into our heatset ink platform, improving the repeatability, consistency and quality of our products. Over the years, Kevin’s influence has multiplied, as he travels the globe to share his expertise with industry professionals worldwide. He has more than earned this prestigious award.”
“I met Kevin over 30 years ago when he was an intern in the news ink lab,” said Parisi, prior supervisor of Kingman’s and current VP supply chain management. “It struck me immediately that Kevin was not only a brilliant chemist but someone who would never give up on a challenge. It is those two characteristics that have been key to our formulation success in the publication market. Kevin strives for perfection and is always looking for a reason why something can be done as opposed to why not. Kevin truly is a Printing Ink Pioneer.”
“Kevin has played a significant role in maintaining Flint Group’s leadership status in the heatset ink businesses,” noted Michael Podd, VP of the Heatset Ink business unit. “With Kevin, you get what you see, and that is steady dedication, a scientific mind with creative vision, and the ability to bring innovation to a mature market.”
