NAPIM 96th Annual Convention – Navigating To A New Perspective
The ability to develop profitable niche markets is quickly becoming a necessity for all businesses, including ink makers. With an eye toward that goal, the National Association of Printing Ink Manufacturers (NAPIM) will be featuring Zunaira Munir, managing director of Blue Ocean Strategy, among its key speakers during its upcoming Annual Convention.
NAPIM’s 96th Annual Convention, Navigating To A New Perspective, will be held March 24-27, 2012 at the Hyatt Grand Champions Resort, Indian Wells, CA. This year’s conference will feature sessions on branding as well as developing new markets away from competitors.
For businesses, the idea behind the Blue Ocean Strategy is to create new demand in an uncontested market space, leading to high growth and profits. Mr. Munir will lead a half-day session on Monday, March 26.
Along that theme, Sasha Strauss of Innovation Protocol will be giving talks on “Branding You/Personal Branding” and “B2B Brand Strategy” during the Sunday, March 25 session. Innovation Protocol is an award-winning brand strategy-consulting firm that specializes in serving organizations that are changing the nature of their market.
In addition to these sessions, the convention will feature the State of the Industry Report and the Annual Ault Award Dinner on Tuesday, March 27, as well as activities such as golf and a “Fun Nite” Party at the Palms Springs Air Museum.
For more information on the NAPIM Conference, contact NAPIM at (732) 855-1525 or the web at www.napim.org.
NPES, NAPIM Announce Reaffirmation of Safety Standards
The reaffirmation of two safety standards was announced by NPES, The Association for Suppliers of Printing, Publishing and Converting Technologies and the National Association of Printing Ink Manufacturers (NAPIM):
• B65/NAPIM 177.1-2007, Safety standard: Three-roll printing ink mills, which applies to all three-roll mills used in the printing ink manufacturing industry, establishes safety requirements for safety controls, operating procedures and the design of three-roll mills.
• B65/NAPIM 177.2-2006, Safety standard: Printing ink vertical post mixers provides standardized guidance, advice and recommendations to both equipment designers and operators aimed at reducing the risk of personal injury during the operation of vertical post mixers.
“In-running nip accidents occur when the wash-up stick (in-running nip point guard) is not in the rear nip during roll cleaning… the NGSIS (Nip Guard Safety Interlock System) that is part of the B65/NAPIM 177.1- 2007 electrical package prevents this worse case accident,” said Jon Hatz, president of Keith Machinery Corp. “B65/NAPIM 177.1- 2007 works; it is something that the committee should be proud of.”
This work was completed by the ANSI-accredited B65 Committee, which consists of several subcommittees that address safety for printing press systems, cutting machines and stand-alone platen presses, as well as binding and finishing systems. NPES serves as the secretariat to ANSI CGATS, ANSI B65 and the USTAG to ISO TC130 (Graphic Technology).
The B65/NAPIM standards are available for purchase from NPES. For more information or to order, visit the NPES Standards Workroom at: www.npes.org/Programs/Standards-Workroom.aspx, or contact Debbie Orf, NPES assistant director of standards, at (703) 264-7229 or e-mail: dorf@npes.org.
UV LED Curing Association Publishes Glossary of Terms
UV LED Curing Association has published its inaugural UV LED Glossary of Terms. This is the organization’s first major accomplishment since founders Integration Technology Limited, Lumen Dynamics and Phoseon Technology announced the formation of the association just one month ago.
The three companies are diligently working to define and establish agreed-upon UV LED-based guidelines for UV LED curing applications. The founders believe the association’s work will have a positive impact toward enabling the adoption of UV LED technology within the printing, coating and adhesive industries.
The UV LED Glossary of Terms provides a consolidated list of curing terminology specific to ultraviolet (UV) light emitting diodes (LEDs) and can be found on the association’s website, www.uvledcuring.org. Curing systems made of UV LEDs as well as the technology’s use in manufacturing processes has been evolving at a steady pace since 2003, yet this is the first ever consolidated effort to document this unique language for the UV curing industry. It is the hope of the association that its glossary of terms will give potential users a better foundation with which to navigate and evaluate UV LED technology options.
The UV LED Curing Association was established to address a growing need within the market for current and potential researchers, suppliers, integrators and end users to gain a better understanding of UV LED technology and the significant benefits it brings to numerous applications. Additional information about the association and UV LED curing can be found at www.uvledcuring.org.
