For printing ink manufacturers, quality of inks is a critical selling point, but there are other aspects that are also essential to customers. One key is the ability to provide excellent service, and to do that, customers often look to make sure that their supplier has a nearby base for quick delivery and service help.
For the past 15 years, OCP GmbH, located in Hattingen/Ruhr, Germany, has been at the forefront of the inkjet recharging market. Founded by Dr. Siegfried Koch, an inkjet ink veteran from Pelikan, together with Horst-Gerh. Edelmeier, the company developed top-flight digital inks for a wide variety of leading printers.
OCP focuses on the aftermarket, developing consumables for everything from Hewlett-Packard and Canon to Epson, Lexmark and Brother. They have developed high-quality inks for the home office, wide format and even into the high-speed labeling industry. OCP has received the DIN EN ISO 9001:2008 certificate, an important milestone for the company.
“We believe our inks are the best inks out there, superior even to OEM inks, and at the top of the aftermarket in terms of quality,” said Werner Ruegger, vice president of OCP USA.
“Quality is our strength,” Mr. Ruegger said. “Our inks are second to none. We have inks that are ideal for virtually any product, and if we don’t have it, we have a very good team that can customize inks to meet our customers’ needs.”
While OCP GmbH has been selling into the U.S. market since its beginnings, the company has been looking into expanding its share of the market. With that in mind, OCP USA, Inc. opened its doors a year ago in Spring Hill, TN.
“A little more than a year ago, the owners of OCP decided to really get involved in the U.S. market,” said Mr. Ruegger. “We had sold to customers in the U.S. since OCP was founded, but we never had somebody actually working in the U.S. market full-time. We now have an office and warehouse in place to supply local customers.”
Having a location in the U.S. also allows OCP to provide excellent service to its customers.
“For our customers, the second most important aspect is that we provide very good support,” Mr. Ruegger said. “In Europe and the U.S., we have made sure that all of our support people have come out of the inkjet industry, and most of our people have been in the imaging industry for more than 20 years.”
OCP has subsidiaries and distribution agencies worldwide, and having a location in the U.S. has allowed OCP to provide faster delivery to its customers and grow its business.
“We actually have had good success,” Mr. Ruegger said. “One thing that has helped us is being able to build up our existing business more than what we had initially planned, by helping our customers when they need products right away.
“We were very fortunate in building up our existing customer base, while adding some very nice accounts that had not considered us before,” Mr. Ruegger concluded.
