There are not a whole lot of growth areas to be found for the ink industry, and what segments are growing (energy curing and digital come to mind) are not expanding at the fast rates they had been earlier in the decade.
However, printed electronics (PE) is an area that is intriguing for ink manufacturers. As the name indicates, PE is a merger between printing and electronics, with applications ranging from solar cells and displays to batteries, item level tagging and countless other possibilities. A major key for this market is the development of conductive inks.
With an eye toward the potential of the printed electronics market, Rodman Publishing has launched a website dedicated to the industry. The website, www.printedelectronicsnow.com, offers weekly feature articles as well as breaking news, white papers and much more, and I welcome you to check out the site. As the co-editor of Printed Electronics Now, along with Label & Narrow Web editor Jack Kenny, I will be keeping a very close watch on an industry that some analysts project will grow to $30 billion by 2015. If it does reach its potential, that will be a sizable opportunity indeed for ink manufacturers.
As has been the case for the past 13 years, this issue features our U.S. Ink Directory, which begins on page 18. The U.S. Ink Directory is the ink industry’s only comprehensive listing of addresses, products, personnel and contact information. In addition, the U.S. Ink Directory can also be found on our website, www.inkworldmagazine.com/ink_us/, which links viewers to ink companies as well as their websites.
While I am pleased to note that we have found some new companies to add to our directory this year, there have also been some companies that have not been able to weather these difficult times. Still, it seems that even in these challenging economic times, there are entrepreneurs who are starting up companies.
If you wish to have your company listed in our online directory as well as next year’s listing, please send me an e-mail at firstname.lastname@example.org. Also, we update our information throughout the year, and if you wish to send in changes, please send me an e-mail or give me a call.
