Comments: FUJIFILM North America Corporation, Graphic Systems Division is a global leader in screen and digital inks, with the digital side enjoying strong growth.
“Overall, global ink sales kept pace with the market,” said Mitch Bode, vice president, wide format and specialty ink systems, Graphic Systems Division, FUJIFILM North America Corporation. “Expansion in the inkjet printing industry helped drive business growth in Fujifilm’s full line of inkjet inks, designed to serve a variety of platforms and applications, including our Uvijet inks and Color + aftermarket inks. As printers worldwide embraced inkjet technology as a way to grow their businesses and increase efficiencies, Fujifilm saw demand for its inkjet inks rise.”
As a whole, Fujifilm saw the inkjet printing industry grow at a faster rate during the past year as many printers – screen printers and offset – looked for ways to grow their businesses. As a result, Fujifilm saw its business grow as more and more printers added new inkjet technologies to their lines. Sales of the Acuity Advance series, Uvistar and Onset series grew to meet the rising demand for production inkjet.
“The addition of inkjet gave more printers additional flexibility, and gave them the capability to capture jobs they may have missed before,” Mr. Bode said. “We saw more customers embrace our wide format inkjet printer line as a business extender, especially the Inca Onset Series. Globally, Fujifilm expanded the roll out of the Euromedia brand of wide format media from Germany to the UK, France and Spain, to great response, as both new and existing customers accepted its value and high quality.”
To further the growth of its inkjet ink offerings, Fujifilm formed FUJIFILM Specialty Ink Systems in the UK, combining worldwide manufacturing, development and marketing of screen, flexo and inkjet technologies.
“As a global entity, Fujifilm is committed to innovation, research and development, and providing the best solutions to our customers worldwide,” said Todd Zimmerman, vice president, sales and marketing, Graphic Systems Division, FUJIFILM North America Corporation. “Our commitment drives us to seek new technologies and production improvements. As advancements in technologies emerge, Fujifilm will be on the leading edge.”
In terms of developing state-of-the-art technologies, Fujifilm reinforced its leadership position in the digital printing field with the introduction of the J Press 720. Combining the best features of offset and digital printing, the J Press 720 is the perfect solution for printers looking for a product that has the quality and robustness of an offset press with the versatility to handle the shortest of press runs.
Another significant highlight for Fujifilm was the introduction of the Onset S40 UV flatbed inkjet printer. The latest addition to its market-leading Inca Onset range of full-bed array wide-format UV flatbed inkjet printers, the S40 is positioned between the high productivity S70 (8,073 square feet/hour) and S20 (3,340 square feet/hour).
The Onset S40 prints at up to 5,059 square feet/hour at throughput speeds of 94 full bed (63”x123.6”) sheets/hour onto substrates up to 2” thick. Productivity-enhancing features include wide color gamut, controllable gloss levels, variable job management, plus optional 6-color printing and automation. The Onset S40 offers an economical solution for printing a wide range of graphics.
Part of Fujifilm’s advantage in digital inkjet technology comes from FUJIFILM Dimatix, Inc., a wholly owned subsidiary of FUJIFILM Corporation, which has developed significant intellectual property and multiple generations of proprietary drop-on-demand inkjet printheads capable of producing high performance digital images in a wide variety of printing and fluid jetting applications.
FUJIFILM Dimatix is the world leader in piezoelectric inkjet printheads. MEMS fabrication processes enable the development of high performance, micro-precision printheads and systems for depositing picoliter sized droplets of fluids - such as liquid silver and organic “inks” - on all types of surfaces, including flexible substrates, flat panel and flexible displays, printable electronics, bioscience and a wide variety of other applications.
The Onset S40 is the first Inca platform to incorporate the new QS series “MEMS” printhead technology, while the J Press 720 makes use of SAMBA printhead technology for single-pass inkjet printing.
