Membrana Offers Radial Flow SuperPhobic
Membrana now offers the SuperPhobic 2 x 6 Membrane Contactor, an all polyolefin degassing device that is resistant to many aggressive ink and coating solutions and various solvents.
SuperPhobic 2 x 6 Membrane Contactor is small and compact, and provides in-line degassing and debubbling of low surface tension solutions. The 2 x 6 Membrane Contactor utilizes a radial flow path through the contactor to maximize the surface area and optimize degassing efficiency. Hollow fiber membrane is knit into a fabric array and wound around a central distribution tube.
Liquid flows through the distribution tube, which is parallel to the hollow fiber membrane. The liquid is forced radially over the membrane and exits the contactor through a side port in the housing. Tego Offers New Highly Flexible Silicone Modified Polyurethane Dispersion
Degussa’s Tego Coating and Ink Additives has introduced LA-B 1096, a one-pack silicone modified water-based polyurethane dispersion. Water-based coatings formulated with LA-B 1096 offer soft feel, high flexibility, excellent resistance to abrasion and are fast drying. This dispersion can be used alone or in combination with a broad range of acrylic and polyurethane dispersions and can improve the abrasion and water resistance of water-based coatings.
LA-B 1096 is non-flammable and low odor, supplied 34 percent active as a waterborne dispersion and is NMP-free. In addition to its high flexibility and soft feel, dry films offer outstanding hydrophobicity, are recoatable and are easy to clean. 50 HP – Ultra High Shear Mixer Offered by Ross
Charles Ross & Son Company has announced the introduction of the new model of the PreMax, one of the company’s specialty high shear mixer designs.
The PreMax is a highly efficient mixer, often used to improve pigment dispersion prior to media milling. The PreMax contains a specially designed rotor/stator that creates high flow and shear rates. The PreMax has proven that it can in some cases eliminate the need for a media mill. In all cases, this mixer reduces the number of passes required to obtain high quality dispersions by up to 50 percent of that which is normally required. Typical applications include flexo and gravure inks, cosmetics, paints and specialty coatings.
The PreMax is available in a wide range of sizes up to 200 hp. The PreMax is also offered as a component of dual or triple shaft mixers that are also offered by the company. More info: Charles Ross and Son, (800) 243-ROSS; fax: (631) 234-0691; e-mail: sales@mixers.com; web: www.mixers.com.
HarperScientific Offers New CeramClear II
HarperScientific now offers a new and improved formula for its CeramClear II, an anilox roll cleaner. CeramClear II removes water, dried UV-based and solvent-based inks from the cells of anilox rolls without damaging the cell structure.
In addition, the cleaner removes most tough stains on the roll face and safely and thoroughly cleans gravure and chrome cylinders. More info: HarperScientific, (800) 438-3111; e-mail: tdonato@harperimage.com; web: www.harperscientific.com.
Brookfield Engineering Introduces New Rheocal Software
Brookfield Engineering Laboratories now offers the new Rheocal 3.0 software for use with DV-II+Pro Viscometers and DV-III Ultra Rheometers. The Rheocal 3.0 features tests wizards that allow the user to easily and rapidly setup their ideal testing program. Test wizards can be used to setup a number of tests, including time to stop, which collects a number of data points at one speed; time to torque, which collects data until a target torque is reach; and temperature profile, which collects data at several different temperatures.
The unit has a new interface with menus, toolbar and dockable control windows that can be resized and moved to create a custom display and a new plot component with a second Y-axis for more plotting and display options. Gardco Introduces ZGM 1120 Glossmeter
Gardco has introduced the ZGM 1120 glossmeter, a new generation of portable precision three-angle glossmeter. The lightweight glossmeter is able to measure on very confined areas, curved surfaces and surfaces that are not uniform.
It is possible to operate and control several geometries and measuring heads with the “GlossTools” software at the same time. Single measurements, multi measurements and specially designed automated series of measurements according to user specifications as well as continuous measurements are available. On-going updated statistics of the gloss values (average, standard deviation, max, mini) can be obtained.
Furthermore, it is possible to set limit values and reference values for gloss range measurements. The “GlossTools” software enables easy transfer of the measuring data to in-house databases or Excel. Due to the automatic standard recognition, the calibration is easier. More info: Paul N.
