The 2018 National Association of Printing Ink Manufacturers’ (NAPIM) Annual Convention is heading out west to the Fairmont Sonoma Mission Inn & Spa, Sonoma, CA.
The theme of this year’s convention is “Emergency Preparedness 2018.” The convention, which will be held from April 20-23, will focus on a wide range of topics, from handling disasters like the wildfires that heavily damaged northern California late last year to updates on key issues like regulations and Proposition 65.
“This year’s NAPIM Convention is unlike any previous convention we’ve ever had,” said John Copleand, NAPIM’s executive director. “The convention will be held in Northern California for the first time. The Fairmont Sonoma Mission Inn Resort & Spa is the site for this year’s convention. The resort is a beautiful old property nestled in the lovely wine country and redwood trees. The Fairmont is the location of the top rated Willow Stream Spa, the Michelin award-winning dining room and the championship Sonoma Golf Course. We think our NAPIM members will be able to enjoy and relax at this resort.”
Copeland noted that the Convention Planning Committee put together a stellar business program this year.
“We have three great days of business meetings and recreational activities planned this year,” he added. “Our Keynote speaker this year is Craig Fugate, former national director of FEMA. We are very fortunate to have Craig as our keynote. Craig has vast experience in the arena of emergency management. He will inform our member companies how they can prepare for different types of emergencies in their planning.
“The additional topics covered in our business meetings this year include a State of The Union Report presented by Bryce Kristo of INX and John Jilek Jr. of Inksolutions, workplace violence, information security, Sonoma County Fire Department, Sonoma recovery efforts, economic outlook for print, a regulatory overview by George Fuchs of NAPIM and an update on Proposition 65.”
There will also be a number of events outside of the meetings, including golf tournaments, a tour of Alcatraz as well as two local wineries, the NAPIM Fun Night and the Black Tie Ault Award dinner, with the presentation of the prestigious Ault and Pioneer Awards.
“NAPIM has arranged some fantastic activities this year including a tour to Alcatraz, Wine Tours of Buena Vista Winery and Gundlach Bundchu Winery and a cooking class at the world famous William Sonoma Cooking School,” Copeland said. “Our Awards night reception and dinner will be on Sunday evening, April 22 with good music and food. The Women’s Golf tournament will be on Monday morning with the NAPIM Golf Tournament starting mid-day. The final activity will be the fun night with some great wine and food pairings, music and an appearance by our industry band ‘The Ink Knives.’”
