TWGA Offers Demographic Profiles
TrendWatch Graphic Arts (TWGA) has released its 2005 Graphic Arts Market Demographic Profiles. This report provides insight into each of the graphic arts markets TWGA regularly surveys–commercial printers and prepress shops, graphic design and production firms and publishing companies.
The reports will provide TWGA customers with detailed markets sizing data, including the number of graphic arts establishments, printers, creatives and publishers.
According to the 2005 Graphic Arts Market Demographic Profiles:
• There are fewer than 30,000 commercial printing and prepress establishments in the U.S., indicating a decline of 5 percent from the previous year.
• Digital presses account for less than 5 percent of the presses installed in U.S.
• Nearly half the establishments in the printing industry are small commercial and quick printers, and yet small commercial and quick printers only account for 10 percent of all shipments in the industry.
• According to recent TWGA research, 13 percent of print and prepress firms, 16 percent of commercial photographers and 6 percent of publishing firms plan to invest in large-format printers–all the highest rates of planned investment in this equipment category in the history of TWGA surveys.
• There are greater than 50,000 design and production establishments in the U.S., more than one-third of them graphic design shops.
