TWGA Explores Digital Color Printing Market
TrendWatch Graphic Arts (TWGA) has released two reports, Digital Printing 2005: It’s Mainstream, Baby! and TWGA Market Share Installed Base Benchmark Study – Digital Presses, September 2005.
Digital Printing 2005: It’s Mainstream, Baby! is a detailed special report on the digital color printing marketplace that focuses on the growth and adoption of this technology. According to TWGA, the report provides needed data for marketing managers selling in this space.
Over the years, TWGA has tracked the digital printing market place and investment in digital presses, and until recently, the changes in the market were primarily incremental. TWGA has reported a noticeable change in the market as compared to 2002. The report sums up the changes, provides an overarching analysis of the current digital printing marketplace and unveils the most recent and comprehensive data from TWGA’s surveys.
Highlights from this report include:
•15 percent of graphic arts firms plan to purchase a digital color press in the next 12 months.
•39 percent of digital printers say their digital printing volumes are increasing “a little” or “a lot.”
•26 percent of digital printers see “short-run with color copiers” – copiers, not digital presses – as a top sales opportunity.
•42 percent of creatives say their use of digital color printing is increasing “a little” or “a lot.”
TWGA’s Market Share/Installed Base Benchmark Study–Digital Presses, September 2005 predicts continued growth and penetration of digital presses. According to the report, in spring 2005, 15 percent of commercial printers planned to invest in a digital press.
By 2010, TWGA expects the number of commercial printing establishments owning digital color printing systems to grow by 160.6 percent.
According to TWGA, many forces are driving the demand for digital printing, and thus digital printing systems. Some of theses forces include the increased demand for personalization and customization; heightened customer acceptance of the admittedly better quality of digital printing; fundamental shifts in the way print is purchased, and a focus on new applications for print as the role of print itself in the new media landscape is changing. As a result, TWGA experts expect the installed base of digital presses in the industry to increase in nearly all market segments.
The two reports, Digital Printing 2005: It’s Mainstream, Baby! and TWGA Market Share/Installed Base Benchmark Study–Digital Presses, September 2005, are available for purchase for $995 online.
