The Chemist is a key position in the Specialty Products Ink Lab, which is part of the Specialty Products Division, within the Industrial Packaging Group of Containers the Americas. Specialty Products supplies water based flexographic printing inks and related services to corrugated packaging converters, bag manufacturers, and other flexographic printers within IP and outside customers. The ink lab provides color matching, technical service, formulation, and R&D services to our customers in order to help them produce high quality packaging products. The Chemist reports to the Lab Manager.
Key Functions:
The Chemist will be responsible for leading new product development, finding and evaluating new raw materials, product improvement, complaint resolution and other lab functions as necessary. The project work is done by applying various ASTM, TAPPI, and other specialized testing to raw materials and products, and by applying knowledge of chemistry and materials properties. This position will be responsible for planning projects, conducting all applicable lab testing, maintaining project files and producing lab reports. Expertise with spreadsheet, word and database applications is highly desired. The Chemist II position will be working in a fast paced, team environment, and will need to be able to handle multiple tasks and changing priorities. Calibration, cleaning, and maintenance of lab equipment is also a responsibility of this position.
Requirements:
Candidate must be detail oriented and have excellent analytical and problem solving skills. Excellent verbal and written communication skills are required, as well as a positive attitude, willingness to take on special projects, and initiative. Customer and Vendor communication and relationship building will also be paramount. Previous experience with color or color matching and knowledge of industrial batch process and equipment is a plus. Four year degree in Chemistry or related discipline and at least five years experience in ink formulation/testing or related industry is preferred.
