JOB DESCRIPTION
POSITION TITLE: Associate Chemist
REPORTS TO: Technical Manager, Senior Chemist or equivalent
DEPT: Technology or Operations
EFFECTIVE DATE:
OVERALL PURPOSE:
Working under supervision, formulate and test chemistries as directed. Report results and take corrective actions as required.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Formulate chemistries under supervision. Mix and test formulations and report results.
General Lab testing, read samples, and enter data into system as necessary.
Maintain accurate records of experiments or process.
Participate in plant and customer trials
All safety rules must be followed and all work areas must be kept in a clean and orderly condition.
Follow all quality procedures.
Lab maintenance of equipment and materials.
Keep updated in the field by reading technical literature, attending lectures, and industry seminars.
Performs other duties as assigned or required.
JOB RELATIONSHIPS:
Chemists, supervisors, plant employees, sales and customer service.
BACKGROUND:
Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry or Chemical Engineering. Zero to three years experience in laboratory chemistry formulation, ideally in film manufacturing/ink formulation. Coatings experience a plus. Color matching a plus. Experience would include MS Office, Excel, and Outlook. Proper candidate would have excellent verbal and written communication skills; as well as a team player.

Required to attend safety training, comply with all company safety and work policies and reporting all accidents/injuries immediately to their Manager and HR Department.

- Work is normally performed in a combination of laboratory, office and plant work environments.
- Limited physical effort required. Occasionally moves or lifts up to 20 lbs. and operates lab pilot coating and milling equipment. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
- Some exposure to physical risk in lab and plant area.
- Frequent exposure to chemicals, UV radiation cure, solvents, etc.
