The Chemical Heritage Foundation (CHF), Philadelphia, PA, has named John R. Van Ness vice president for administration. In this new position, Dr. Van Ness will oversee CHF’s Othmer Library and Beckman Center for the History of Chemistry, as well as CHF’s development, public affairs and publications programs. He also serves as secretary of the CHF board of directors.
Dr. Van Ness joined CHF in 2000 as vice president for program development to guide expansion of CHF programs and facilities. Prior to joining CHF, he served as associate vice president for development at Lehigh University, Bethlehem, PA. He also held executive positions at colleges in the Philadelphia area, serving as executive vice president and acting president of Moore College of Art and Design and as vice president for college relations at Ursinus College.
The Chemical Heritage Foundation, a private, non-profit organization, operates a historical research library and museum; creates and circulates traveling exhibits; develops and disseminates educational materials; publishes books and Chemical Heritage magazine; offers fellowships and travel grants to visiting scholars; conducts oral histories with leading scientists and industrialists; and hosts awards, conferences, and public events.
