When Siegwerk Group acquired Color Converting Inc. in December 2003, one of the primary goals was to develop a worldwide presence. For Color Converting, headquartered in Des Moines, IA, that included having a full presence throughout North America.
Color Converting is taking major steps in fulfilling that mandate, as it recently opened Color Converting Canada in Woodbridge, Ontario, and is setting up facilities for Color Converting Mexico.
“Siegwerk’s mandate is to provide global coverage for our customers, and North America is our responsibility,” said Dan McDowell, Color Converting’s president. “The NAFTA region is becoming very integrated. The operation in Canada is already operational. Many of the customers we have relationships with in the U.S. have operations in Canada, and many of the big U.S. converters also have operations in Mexico.”
The new facility in Canada is already operational. “We officially opened our new subsidiary this year,” said Barry Cousins, area manager, Canada for Color Converting. “Presently, we are a distribution plant, and we have an in-house analytical lab for color matching. We are adding blending capabilities later this year.”
“We hope to have a nice impact there,” added Bob Davison, Color Converting’s director of sales. “The time was right to invest, as our customers indicated they wanted us to enter the market and offer another choice.”
With an eye towards the expanding packaging market in Mexico, Color Converting is also in the process of opening a blending and distribution facility near Mexico City, which will be led by general manager Tulio Poblete.
“We have been selling directly into Mexico for the past 10 years, and we have been a large migration of customers into Mexico,” said Shannon Barry. “There are so many customer opportunities, and we will be supporting our efforts with our resources in the U.S.”
