“Consistent Mixing and Dispersing: The Theory and Technology of Incorporating Powders into Liquids,” a two-day seminar presented by Lisa Hahn, Flexo Tech, Inc., and Peter Holman of Holman Engineering, Inc., will be held Aug. 10-11 in Chicago.
Ms. Hahn is the president of Flexo Tech, Inc., a research and development organization which provides laboratory services, formulation development and training to the printing ink and allied industries. She has published several articles in Ink World on printing ink formulation and dispersion issues, flexographic ink printability and effects of additives and polymers in inks. In 2002, Ms. Hahn received the NAPIM Award for Technical Achievement, and is a co-inventor on patents dealing with binder and dispersant chemistries.
Mr. Holman is president of Holman Engineering, Inc., Burlington, WI. With more than 30 years of experience in chemical process and environmental engineering, he has consulted with hundreds of clients on their mixing problems. He has developed mixing specifications for numerous chemical companies, reducing their off-spec batches and rework. Additionally, he has authored a book titled “Liquid Mixing: From the Laboratory to the Pilot Plant.”
This seminar will provide the basics of mixing and how to achieve batch-to-batch uniformity. In addition, the physical and chemical parameters involved in the mixing and dispersing processes will be identified. Formulation issues will be discussed; in particular, theory and application of polymeric surfactants and binders will be explored.
The attendee will gain a deeper insight into the factors that govern dispersion formulation and processing, practical information that can be applied whether he/she is a formulator or a manufacturer of raw materials for the dispersion industry.
The price of the course will be $895 per person; the location in Chicago and further details, including a registration form, will be published in the June issue of Ink World. For more information, contact Ms. Hahn at (614) 863-5940.
